Aurubis, a leader in copper recycling and non-ferrous metals, has initiated the commissioning phase for its new secondary smelter in Augusta, Georgia. The facility, which represents a significant investment in the United States, is set to produce 70,000 tonnes of blister copper annually from recycled materials.
With a ribbon-cutting event planned for September 20, the plant is expected to commence full operations by February 2025. This strategic move not only enhances Aurubis’ capacity but also positions the company to potentially incorporate black mass recycling, leveraging its proprietary hydrometallurgical process for battery raw materials.
