US steel imports fell sharply in June, decreasing by 27.9% from May and 25.9% year-over-year, totaling 1,954,860 metric tons.
The value of these imports dropped to $2.41 billion, down from $3.12 billion in May and $3.23 billion in June 2023. Major sources included Canada (505,921 mt), Brazil (281,672 mt), and Mexico (190,710 mt).
By product, semi-finished imports were down to 381,855 mt, while flat product imports totaled 806,252 mt. The share of imports in the US steel market was estimated at 21% in June, down from 25% in May.
