Tokyo Steel, Japan's top electric arc furnace steelmaker, is keeping prices steady for a sixth month in a row. Prices for rebar, hot rolled coils, and plate remain at JPY 98,000/tonne, JPY 109,000/tonne, and JPY 118,000/tonne respectively for August.
The company is also promoting its new "Near Zero" green steel brand, launched in July, with a JPY 6,000/tonne premium across all categories.
Despite sluggish global steel demand, Tokyo Steel cites expectations of a rebounding Japanese domestic market, driven by public infrastructure projects, and relatively stable raw material prices as reasons for maintaining prices.
