Sonatrach, Algeria's state-owned oil company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tosyali Algeria, a leading steel company, to collaborate on green hydrogen production in Algeria.
The agreement outlines a joint feasibility study to explore producing green hydrogen from renewable energy sources within the country.
The green hydrogen generated will be utilized for manufacturing "green steel" at Tosyali Algeria's facilities. This partnership marks a significant step towards replacing fossil fuels with eco-friendly hydrogen in Algerian industries.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi and Tosyali Algeria's Board of Directors Chairman Fouad Tosyali at Sonatrach's headquarters in Algiers.
This strategic agreement aligns with Algeria's commitment to developing renewable energy and reducing hydrocarbon consumption at its oil and gas sites in a sustainable manner.
