Japan's electric vehicle (EV) sales continued to decline for the twelfth consecutive month in October, primarily due to decreased demand for domestic brands. Total sales dropped to 4,325 units, a 35.1% decrease from the previous year and a 32.7% drop from September. EVs represented only 1.3% of total domestic passenger car sales, down 0.7 percentage points year-on-year. The decline was largely attributed to a 51.6% fall in sales of Nissan's top-selling Sakura model. Foreign brand EV sales also fell to 1,900 units, reflecting supply issues from Volkswagen. Toyota has revised its global EV sales outlook downward to 160,000 units for the fiscal year ending March 2025.
