Japanese upstream firm Inpex has announced a final investment decision on the Quorn Park Hybrid project, a joint venture with Enel Green Power Australia (EGPA) in New South Wales, Australia. The project involves constructing a solar farm with a photovoltaic and battery storage system.
The solar farm is expected to produce around 210GWh/yr of electricity, with the battery system providing additional 40MWh/yr of storage capacity. The operational capacity of the project will be around 98MW for solar and 20MW for battery storage.
Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2024, with commercial operations targeted for the first half of 2026. The investment amount was not disclosed by Inpex, but EGPA's website estimates the construction cost to be over $190 million.
This investment aligns with Inpex's strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio. The company acquired a 50% stake in EGPA in July 2023 and considers Australia a key area for its renewable energy business growth.
