Commodities giant Glencore announced today that its copper production experienced a sharp fall in the first half of 2025. From January to June, copper output decreased by 26% year-on-year, totaling 343.9 kilotonnes. While production is anticipated to rebound across all mines in the latter half of the year, the pace is expected to be slower than initially projected. For the entirety of 2025, Glencore now forecasts total copper production to be between 850 and 890 kilotonnes, a downward revision from the previously estimated 850 to 910 kilotonnes. This compares to 951.6 kilotonnes recorded in 2024. The company also reported a 17% drop in nickel production to 36.6 kilotonnes and an 18% decrease in gold output to 301,000 ounces during the same period. Conversely, cobalt and zinc production saw substantial increases, rising by 19% to 18.9 kilotonnes and 12% to 417.2 kilotonnes, respectively.
