China and India are intensifying their electrical steel production through new joint ventures and acquisitions to meet rising global demand and sustainability goals. India has launched an anti-dumping investigation into Chinese imports, impacting market dynamics as Chinese mills face challenges from expiring Bureau of Indian Standards certifications. In 2023, India became China’s largest electrical steel buyer, importing over 771,000 tonnes. Meanwhile, China Oriental Group announced a $2.66 billion joint venture with ArcelorMittal to produce electrical steel, while JSW Steel and JFE Steel acquired Thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel India to enhance local production capabilities.
