US Tariffs and Trade Policies Update

The United States has implemented a new round of tariffs, significantly impacting global trade. Effective August 7, 2025, new tariff rates apply to a list of countries, while all countries not listed face a 10 percent tariff. Tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from all countries have been increased to 50 percent, and this rate now applies to derivative products as well, such as refrigerators and washers. The new policies also include an executive order that eliminates the "de minimis" exemption for shipments valued under $800, effective August 29, 2025, which will subject a wider range of goods to tariffs. The Universal Tariff system, which initially included a 10% tariff on all imports, has been subject to further adjustments and country-specific rates. These new measures are part of a broader shift in U.S. trade policy
