BHP Launches Mining Industry’s First AI Hub in Singapore

Singapore, June 7, 2025 – Global mining giant BHP has inaugurated the industry’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub in Singapore, marking a major step in digital transformation for the resources sector. The facility, set to begin operations this month, will leverage AI to enhance safety, productivity, and automation across BHP’s global operations.

The hub will host a team of AI specialists collaborating with partners like Enterprise Singapore and the AI Singapore Program (AISG) to integrate advanced data analytics and automation into core mining processes. Key focus areas include procurement optimization, predictive analytics, and production efficiency.

BHP’s Chief Technology Officer, Johan van Jaarsveld, emphasized the potential of AI to solve complex industry challenges, stating, *“This hub will set new benchmarks in safety and operational excellence through innovation. Singapore was chosen for its strong digital infrastructure and alignment with BHP’s technological goals.

The initiative follows BHP’s recent green steel ventures, including a pilot green pig iron ore plant in Australia with Rio Tinto, highlighting the company’s dual focus on sustainability and cutting-edge technology. Future plans include expanding AI-driven projects and partnerships to revolutionize mining efficiency.
