Zekelman Industries will invest more than $6 million to enhance its Atlas Tube and Wheatland Tube facilities in Jefferson County, Alabama. The investment includes approximately $2.3 million for upgrades at the existing Atlas Tube plant, which is expected to create 33 jobs over the next three years.
Additionally, Zekelman plans to invest $3.9 million to convert an existing warehouse into a new Wheatland Tube facility in Birmingham, where finishing processes for torque tubes produced by Atlas will take place, generating 58 new jobs within the same timeframe.
The projects are part of Zekelman's strategy to support the solar industry and contribute to the national green energy transition. Once completed, the facilities will collaborate to produce specialized steel tubing for solar arrays.
Zekelman Industries is North America’s largest independent manufacturer of steel pipe and hollow structural sections, producing 2.8 million tons of steel products annually. The investment is projected to have a significant economic impact, estimated at $20.8 million over 20 years, and reflects the company’s commitment to growth in the Birmingham area.
