Waelzholz and Tata Steel Nederland have entered into an agreement for the provision of Tata's Zeremis Carbon Lite line of environmentally friendly hot-rolled steel strip.
To meet its environmental objectives, German cold-rolling company Waelzholz forged partnerships last year with Salzgitter, ArcelorMittal, and thyssenkrupp Steel to secure low-carbon strip products.
Marcus Englberger, Waelzholz's Head of Procurement, stated, "Initially, we will receive materials with a carbon footprint reduced by up to 30%. The first shipments of the eco-friendly hot-rolled steel strip are already scheduled for this year.
"Matthias Gierse, a manager at Waelzholz, highlighted that 90% of the product's carbon footprint is linked to Scope 3 emissions originating from the upstream supply chain. Gierse emphasized the significance of sourcing low-emission hot-rolled steel strip and forming partnerships to address this issue.
Since late 2023, Waelzholz has been offering products with reduced carbon footprints compared to the baseline year of 2018. Customers have the flexibility to adjust the level of emission reduction either in absolute terms or as a percentage, as reported by Kallanish based on information from the German company.
