Voestalpine has been selected as a key steel supplier for BYD’s new passenger car factory in Szeged, Hungary. The Austrian steelmaker will provide high-quality flat steel for car bodies and outer panels, with deliveries starting this fall.
The agreement marks a major step in BYD’s European localization strategy. The company aims to manufacture vehicles “in Europe, for Europe,” and the partnership with voestalpine supports that goal by securing a reliable, regional supply chain.
BYD’s Hungarian plant is expected to begin production by the end of 2025. The company is also establishing a European headquarters and R&D center in Budapest, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region.
