US imports of rebar fell significantly in August, totaling 63,287 metric tons, a decrease of 24.3% from July and a staggering 144.2% compared to the same month last year, according to preliminary data from the US Department of Commerce. The total value of rebar imports was $41.4 million, down from $47.5 million in July and $93.8 million in August 2023.
Egypt was the largest supplier, providing 26,940 metric tons, followed by Bulgaria with 15,544 metric tons, Mexico with 8,207 metric tons, Canada with 5,895 metric tons, and Turkey with 3,826 metric tons.
