US domestic raw steel production increased by 2.4 percent for the week ending December 21, 2024, reaching 1.690 million net tons, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). The capacity utilization rate rose to 76.1 percent during this period, up from 74.3 percent the previous week when production was 1.651 million net tons. However, this week's production reflects a slight decrease of 0.9 percent compared to the same week last year, which saw production of 1.705 million net tons. Year-to-date production through December 21 stands at 85.526 million net tons, down 2.3 percent from the previous year.
