Ukrainian Railways has re-listed 12,000 tons of ferrous scrap for sale, valued at UAH 87.3 million, after previous auctions failed due to insufficient bidders. The auctions, scheduled for May 26, will take place on the Prozorro.Sale platform, with bids accepted until May 25.
The scrap lots include railway wheelset axles, railcar parts, worn brakes, and general scrap, with prices ranging from 5.32 thousand UAH per ton to 7.6 thousand UAH per ton. Ukrainian Railways had previously halted domestic scrap sales in September 2023 but is now resuming trading after regulatory changes simplified property disposal procedures.
Industry analysts are monitoring the auction results, as the availability of scrap metal plays a crucial role in domestic steel production. The company’s return to the scrap market could influence supply conditions for Ukrainian steelmakers, potentially impacting production costs and material availability. Market participants are expected to assess bidding activity closely to determine whether the reauction will attract stronger interest.
If the auctions proceed successfully, Ukrainian Railways may consider further listings, reinforcing efforts to optimize asset utilization while supporting industrial material flows in the country.
