With a 41% increase in Ukrainian galvanized rolled steel consumption last year, reaching 243,000 tonnes compared to 172,000 tonnes in 2022, according to Kallanish Commodities. The growth was primarily driven by rising demand in civil construction and among end consumers, alongside improved electricity supply stability since the second quarter of the previous year. Notably, about a third of the total consumption was domestically produced, with 32.6% supplied to the local market. Importantly, two-thirds of the market share was held by imported products, with Turkey being the largest supplier at 116,800 tonnes in 2023, doubling its supply from the previous year. Additionally, significant imports came from Poland, Slovakia, and Romania. Metinvest SMC anticipates further growth in galvanized steel consumption in Ukraine, projecting a 19% increase to 289,000 tonnes in 2024.
