In the first half of 2024, Ukraine’s ferrous scrap industry has shown significant growth. Supplies to steelmakers have increased 1.7-fold on-year to 687,000 tonnes. Scrap procurement has risen 1.6-fold to 860,000 tonnes, while exports have surged by 35.3% to 124,500 tonnes.
The Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet) forecasts that steel production in Ukraine could reach 7-7.2 million tonnes in 2024, with scrap procurement expected to be between 1.75-1.8 million tonnes.
