From January to October 2023, Ukraine imported 148.6 thousand tons of long-rolled steel, valued at $154.5 million. This marks a 25.1% increase in import costs and a 36.9% rise in delivery volumes compared to the same period last year.
The most imported items were other rods and bars, not further processed, totaling 58.58 thousand tons worth $45.03 million. Angles, shapes, and special profiles made of unalloyed steel followed, with 55.27 thousand tons imported for $48.09 million. Other rods and bars made of alloy steels, hollow rods, and bars for drilling made of alloy or non-alloy steels ranked third, with 13.4 thousand tons worth $24.05 million.
Turkey and Poland were the primary suppliers of these products, with Turkey accounting for 69.8% of angles, shapes, and special profiles, and 63% of other rods and bars. Germany and Turkey together supplied over 60% of other bars and rods made of alloy steels.
The increase in imports is expected to continue, especially during the post-war reconstruction period, as imports will be crucial to meet domestic demand.
