The UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of hot-rolled steel plate from South Korea. The probe follows a complaint from Spartan UK Ltd., which alleges that South Korean producers have been selling steel plate at unfairly low prices, harming domestic manufacturers.
According to TRA’s initial findings, imports of hot-rolled steel plate from South Korea increased from 14,000 tonnes in 2021 to over 40,000 tonnes in 2024. The investigation covers the period from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
If sufficient evidence is found, the TRA may impose provisional anti-dumping duties, requiring importers to provide guarantees covering potential tariffs. The investigation will assess whether trade remedies are necessary to protect UK industry.
