Numerous rebar suppliers in the United Arab Emirates, excluding the leading mill, Emirates Steel, are encountering difficulties in selling their products for April deliveries. These suppliers are negotiating with secondary mills in the UAE and Omani suppliers for notable discounts to finalize rebar transactions at AED 2,250-2,300 per tonne ($613-626) on credit terms. Despite this, mills have stood firm, declining to go below AED 2,300 per tonne for cash transactions and setting prices at AED 2,320-2,340 per tonne on LC 90 days and delivered basis for April deliveries, as reported by Kallanish.Traders are grappling with excess stocks of the benchmark mill's material amidst a decline in rebar sales attributed to the Ramadan period and the upcoming Eid holiday. However, retail rebar prices have managed to remain steady.Contractors are securing delivered rebar from traders at AED 2,360-2,400 per tonne for secondary mills' material and AED 2,470-2,520 per tonne for benchmark mill material on LC 90-150 days credit terms. In light of the Eid holiday, rebar deliveries to contractors will be accessible on April 8 and 9. Merchant yards will halt deliveries for the remainder of the following week until April 15.Commenting on the situation, a senior mill official remarked, "Due to a misunderstanding, traders are requesting over AED 100 per tonne discount on March quotes from tier-two rebar suppliers. Apart from the benchmark mill and a few rebar re-rollers, significant secondary suppliers have struggled to secure any substantial rebar orders. It is anticipated that deals this week will be finalised within the range of AED 2,320-2,345 per tonne on credit and delivered basis.
