Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA), the largest local steel producer and market leader in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China-based steelmaker Delong Steel to decarbonize its operations.
The partnership aims to build and operate a low-carbon raw materials production facility to support steelmaking, aligning with ESA's decarbonization strategy and the UAE's environmental agenda. The facility will be a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions in the steel industry, which is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. This move is part of ESA's efforts to develop sustainable practices and reduce its environmental impact.
In related news, ESA had previously announced plans to develop the MENA region's first green hydrogen project in collaboration with Masdar, as reported by SteelOrbis last year. This project is expected to play a crucial role in the region's transition to cleaner energy sources.
The partnership between ESA and Delong Steel demonstrates the growing commitment to environmental sustainability in the steel industry and highlights the importance of international cooperation in achieving this goal.
