U.S. domestic raw steel production rose modestly during the week ending June 21, 2025, reaching 1.787 million net tons, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). This marks a 0.2% increase from the previous week’s 1.783 million net tons, with capacity utilization inching up from 79.4% to 79.6%.
Compared to the same week in 2024, when production totaled 1.703 million net tons and utilization stood at 76.7%, the latest figures reflect a year-on-year increase of 4.9% in output and a 2.9 percentage point rise in operating efficiency.
Cumulative output for the year through June 21 has reached 41.642 million net tons, marginally up from 41.571 million net tons recorded during the same period last year. However, the year-to-date capacity utilization rate dipped slightly from 76.2% in 2024 to 75.8% in 2025.
The steady annual production and marginal weekly gains suggest resilient demand amid broader market uncertainties. Industry observers are watching for further signs of recovery as domestic mills adjust to evolving global trade dynamics and raw material pricing
