Turkey’s crude steel production increased by 7% year-on-year in April 2025, reaching 3 million metric tons. This marks the first annual growth in output recorded this year, following a decline in previous months.
Despite the April increase, total production for the first four months of 2025 fell by 1% compared to the same period in 2024, amounting to 12.3 million metric tons. Turkey maintained its position as the seventh-largest steel producer globally, with its output contributing to broader market trends.
Industry analysts attribute the April growth to improved domestic demand and adjustments in production strategies. Finished steel consumption in Turkey also rose by 3.1% year-on-year in April, reaching 3.29 million metric tons. However, overall consumption for the January-April period declined by 6.3% compared to the previous year.
Market participants continue to monitor Turkey’s steel sector, particularly in light of ongoing trade policies and global economic conditions. The country’s steel exports have also shown positive momentum, increasing by 14.4% in April, while imports declined by 9.1%.
