Turkey’s steel sector reported a sharp rise in exports in the first half of 2025. Steel exports for January–June reached 7.7 million tonnes, up 18.6% year-on-year , valued at $5.2 billion (+8.8%). The export/import coverage ratio fell from 80.2% a year ago to 73.5%. Domestic steel output and consumption were weaker: H1 production slipped 1.7% to 18.3 million tonnes, and domestic demand (finished steel) fell 2.6% to 18.6 million tonnes . Turkey’s producers say competition from low-cost Far East and Russian steel is increasing, exacerbating the trade imbalance . They have called for review of domestic processing rules and for protective measures to offset these import pressures. (For 2024, Turkey’s full-year steel exports grew 27.6% to 13.4 Mt, vs. imports of 17.4 Mt
