Turkey imported 1.88 million metric tons of ferrous scrap in April 2025, marking a 23.5% year-on-year increase. Compared to March, imports rose by 12.5%. The average price of scrap in April was $383 per tonne, slightly up from $373 per tonne in March but lower than $437 per tonne a year earlier.
The Netherlands was the leading supplier, delivering 331,130 metric tons, a 70.5% increase year-on-year. Other key suppliers included the United States, which shipped 279,330 metric tons despite a 23.4% decline, and the United Kingdom, which supplied 227,470 metric tons, reflecting a 49.4% rise. Belgium also saw a sharp increase, exporting 129,480 metric tons, up 239.9% year-on-year.
From January to April, Turkey imported 6.59 million metric tons of scrap, a 3.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Despite the overall decline, Turkey remains a major player in the global scrap market, with ongoing shifts in supplier dynamics.
