In March 2025, Turkish steelmakers increased steel production by 7 percent month-on-month, reaching 3.13 million tons. However, this figure represents a 2.8 percent decline compared to March 2024. The recovery follows a near-annual low in production earlier in the year.
Pig iron production also saw a significant rise, increasing by 16.9 percent month-on-month to 837,000 tons, the highest level since October 2024. Despite these gains, Turkey's steel industry recorded a 3.4 percent year-on-year decline in total steel output for the first quarter of 2025, amounting to 9.26 million tons.
The positive monthly trend reflects the industry's resilience, supported by infrastructure projects, export growth, and modernization efforts. However, challenges such as volatile demand and competition from Asian producers remain key concerns.
