As of April 11, 2025, Turkey has fully utilized its EU steel import quotas for rebar, wire rod, hollow sections, and certain flat steel products. The country has also exhausted its 20,955-ton quota for metallic coated sheets under the "other countries" category and nearly 99.66 percent of its gas pipe quota.
Other nations, including Vietnam, South Korea, and India, have also reached their respective quota limits for various steel products. In response, the European Commission has announced stricter controls on steel imports, reducing the annual liberalization rate for tariff quotas and limiting the use of unused quotas from sanctioned countries.
These developments highlight ongoing shifts in global steel trade dynamics and the EU's efforts to regulate import volumes.
