Tenaris, the Luxembourg-based steel tube producer, has announced the successful commissioning of its new electric arc furnace (EAF) at the Campana seamless pipe mill in Argentina. The new EAF, equipped with Tenova's Consteel® technology, has a liquid steel production capacity of 950,000 metric tons for seamless pipe manufacturing.
The new Consteel® EAF replaces one of the two existing EAF units at the Campana plant, while maintaining the same combined productivity of the previous two furnaces. This investment is part of Tenaris's efforts to transform its production process and meet the growing demand for cleaner steel.
The Consteel® technology uses a continuous feed of raw materials instead of a conventional batch process, resulting in higher energy efficiency, increased productivity, and improved emissions control. Additionally, Tenaris plans to build a wind farm to power its operations in Argentina, further reducing the company's carbon footprint in line with its 2030 decarbonization goal.
