Tata Steel has made a significant advancement in sustainable production by successfully conducting trials using biomass in ferrochrome production at its Odisha plant. This initiative marks Tata Steel as the first company in India to replace traditional carbon energy sources with carbon-neutral biomass, derived from low-temperature burning of wood.
The process aims to balance carbon emissions from charcoal burning with the carbon absorbed by trees, aligning with Tata Steel's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting a greener future, according to Pankaj Satija, executive-in-charge of the Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division.
