Tata Steel Nederland has launched a new can-making machine at its R&D facilities, utilizing a dry forming process to manufacture food cans. This innovative approach eliminates the need for emulsified water, reducing energy consumption and lowering investment costs for customers.
The new line can produce up to 400 cans per minute, surpassing the industry standard of 320. It features Tata Steel’s proprietary Protact steel, which enhances food safety by removing the need for lacquer coatings.
The company has already collaborated with Grupo Calvo to develop a Protact tuna can, which requires less oil for preservation and offers improved transport efficiency due to its lighter design.
