Taiwan's Deputy Minister of Environment, Shih Wen-chen, announced that concrete and steel importers will begin reporting carbon emissions next year as part of the national carbon fee program set to launch in 2026. The program aims to establish a carbon pricing mechanism, with initial reporting focusing on emissions volumes from key industry sectors. Importers of materials like cement and steel will be required to submit emissions reports while Taiwan negotiates with the EU regarding carbon tariff deductions. The carbon fee, starting at NT$300 (US$9.35) per tonne, will apply to companies emitting over 25,000 tonnes annually, with fees collected beginning in 2026 based on 2025 emissions data. Environmental groups have criticized the low fee rates, arguing they may not effectively incentivize significant emission reductions
