In the Southern European steel longs market, prices have maintained a steady course as mills are gearing up for the anticipated summer shutdowns. The Italian rebar market, in particular, has shown resilience, with prices holding firm at €660-680 per tonne, reflecting a balance between high input costs and robust order books.
Industry sources suggest that the stability in prices is likely to persist or even see an uptick as the summer closures approach, driven by the current energy costs and consistent demand. Mills have reported satisfactory order volumes with minimal surplus stock, which could potentially lead to price increases in the near term.
The Spanish market echoed this sentiment, with the price for steel reinforcing bar (rebar) delivered domestically remaining unchanged at €645-650 per tonne. Similarly, the price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh quality) delivered in Southern Europe was stable at €625-640 per tonne.
As the industry prepares for the seasonal pause in production, the market's steadiness is a sign of the sector's ongoing efforts to balance supply and demand amid fluctuating costs and economic conditions.
