The Spanish steelmakers' association, UNESID, has expressed serious concerns about the European Union's lack of decisive action to address soaring energy prices. The association criticized current EU measures, such as the Clean Industrial Pact and the Action Plan for Affordable Energy, as insufficient to tackle the high costs impacting energy-intensive industries like steel.
UNESID highlighted that energy prices in the EU remain significantly higher than in other regions, such as the US and China, creating a competitive disadvantage for European producers. The organization has called for immediate structural reforms to the EU energy market to ensure stable and competitive pricing, emphasizing the urgent need for solutions to safeguard the industry's competitiveness and thousands of jobs.
