In May, Spain’s steel industry experienced a decline in scrap consumption, despite an increase in steel production. According to the Spanish steelmakers’ association Unesid, ferrous scrap consumption fell by 2.5% or 23,000 tonnes from the previous month, totaling 884,000 tonnes. However, this figure was still 1% higher compared to the same period in 2023. On the other hand, steel production saw a rise, reflecting the industry’s resilience and adaptability.
