Spain is taking a significant step towards sustainable manufacturing with the advancement of Hydnum Steel’s low-emission steel project. The initiative, which has gained priority status from the Castilla-La Mancha regional government, promises to establish the first green steel mill on the Iberian Peninsula. With an investment of €1.65 billion, the project aims to create over 1,000 direct jobs and produce emission-free steel using renewable energy and green hydrogen. The strategic project is set to commence in Puertollano, Ciudad Real, and is expected to be operational by 2026, marking a pivotal moment in Spain’s industrial decarbonization efforts.
