Scrap metal imports to Mexico fell by 11.2% in October, totaling 219,074 metric tons, marking the second consecutive annual decline and the seventh drop this year, according to SteelOrbis. The majority of imports, 86.9% or 190,433 metric tons, came from the United States and Canada. In contrast, exports increased by 19.1% year-on-year, reaching 115,595 metric tons, primarily sent to the U.S. and Canada. For the January-October period, imports decreased by 16.5%, while exports rose by 27.7% compared to the same timeframe in 2023.
