Samarco, the Brazilian iron ore and pellets producer, has partnered with Aperam Bioenergia to utilize biological oil in its pellet production at the UBU complex in Espírito Santo. This biological oil, a byproduct of eucalyptus charcoal production, will replace natural gas in the pelletizing process, maintaining essential parameters like flame temperature and viscosity. This shift could reduce CO2 emissions by 18,000 metric tons annually from plant 3 alone. Samarco aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2032, marking a significant step in sustainable iron ore production.
