Germany-based steelmaker Salzgitter AG has signed an agreement with BNT Bau, a subsidiary of Portugal's Casais Group, to supply spiral-welded large-diameter steel pipes and pipe fittings for Angola's Quilonga Grande water supply system. The project aims to address severe drinking water shortages in Luanda, Angola's capital city, which faces a daily water deficit of approximately 1.2 million cubic meters.
The pipeline infrastructure will span 105 kilometers, with pipe diameters ranging from 508 mm to 1,626 mm. The pipes will feature a thick internal epoxy coating and an external three-layer polyethylene coating to meet strict requirements for drinking water systems.
Production will be carried out at Mannesmann facilities in Salzgitter and Hamm, ensuring capacity utilization through mid-2026. The project is expected to create new jobs in Angola and significantly improve the city's water supply infrastructure.
