Russia's government has expanded the boundaries of the Bolshoy Kamen priority development area (ASEZ) in the Primorsky Territory to facilitate the construction of the Primorsky Metallurgical Plant (PMZ). The PMZ facility will serve as a dedicated plate mill to supply the needs of the Zvezda shipbuilding complex.
As part of this investment project, PMZ will include production buildings, transport infrastructure, power supply lines, housing for employees, and social facilities within the expanded ASEZ boundaries. The move aims to streamline the development of the plate mill, which is expected to commence production in 2025.
The establishment of PMZ is crucial for providing specialized steel plates to support the operations of the Zvezda shipbuilding complex, a strategic initiative for Russia's shipbuilding industry. By localizing the production of these critical components, Russia aims to enhance its self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on imported materials for its shipbuilding sector.
