The Malaysian Iron and Steel Industry Federation (Misif) has raised concerns over escalating costs as the industry faces new policies and an influx of low-priced steel imports. Misif president Roshan M Abdullah highlighted that the impending carbon tax, minimum wage hikes, and mandatory contributions for foreign workers are significantly increasing operational costs. These pressures are compounded by cheaper imports that undermine local prices, threatening the competitiveness of domestic producers. Misif urges the government to address these challenges to ensure the industry's sustainability while supporting national economic goals.
