Mining giant Rio Tinto has signed a memorandum of understanding with China's Nanjing Iron and Steel Co. (NISCO) to advance decarbonization technology in ironmaking. This collaboration aims to explore the use of biomass and pelletizing techniques utilizing Rio Tinto's Pilbara fines, which are essential for reducing carbon emissions in steel production. This partnership follows Rio Tinto's previous agreement with Baowu Steel Group to enhance decarbonization efforts across Australia and China, reflecting the industry's push towards sustainable practices amid climate change challenges.
