The gap between rebar prices in northern and southern Europe has widened recently. German mills have successfully implemented price increases, with base prices surpassing €400 per tonne in northern and central Germany. In contrast, Italian producers have struggled to achieve similar increases, with base prices remaining around €320 per tonne.
In Austria, which is influenced by both markets, domestic mills have raised offers by €20 per tonne to €390 per tonne, but buyers report resistance to further increases. Italian mills have also raised offers to Austria, with base prices reaching €385 per tonne.
Wire mesh prices have shown stronger upward momentum compared to rebar prices, with recent base prices for wire mesh at €500 per tonne. This is €80 per tonne higher than the upper end of rebar prices, and market participants expect the premium to increase further.
