Ramkrishna Forgings Limited (RFL) has announced plans to invest approximately $233 million in a new manufacturing facility for forged steel wheels in Chennai, southern India. According to company sources, the plant will ultimately reach a production capacity of 288,000 wheels annually. The initial phase, set to begin in fiscal year 2026–27, targets 40,000 units, with production expected to scale up to 100,000 by 2027–28.
The project follows RFL’s strategic joint venture with Titagarh Rail Systems (TRS), established after winning a contract from Indian Railways to manufacture and supply forged wheels. RFL holds a 51% stake in the JV, which aligns with its broader move toward offering higher-value, integrated product solutions.
RFL’s managing director, Naresh Jalan, emphasized the initiative as a pivotal step in enhancing the company’s product portfolio. The firm, known for its expertise in closed-die forgings using carbon, alloy, micro-alloy, and stainless steels, aims to strengthen its position in the value-added steel components market.
The announcement coincides with industry anticipation surrounding the upcoming 93rd IREPAS Meeting and SteelOrbis Fall 2025 Conference in Munich—a key event for global long steel market players—scheduled during the Oktoberfest season.
