Metinvest Adria has presented its plans to revive steel production at the Piombino site in Italy. The announcement was made during a meeting with Italian authorities and trade unions, leading to the cancellation of a planned strike.
The project, developed in partnership with Danieli, involves constructing a new electric-arc furnace-based facility with an annual capacity of 2.7 million tonnes. The plant will use recycled feedstock such as scrap, pig iron, and direct reduced iron, some of which will be sourced from Metinvest’s operations in Ukraine.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize the Piombino industrial area and strengthen ties between the Italian and Ukrainian steel sectors. Production is expected to begin in 2027.
