Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel has postponed the closing date for its acquisition of United States Steel Corporation (US Steel) to the first quarter of 2025, according to Reuters. The original timeline aimed for completion in late 2024 but was delayed due to ongoing reviews by U.S. authorities. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) referred the decision to President Joe Biden, who has 15 days to make a ruling. Nippon Steel remains confident that the acquisition will benefit US Steel and is awaiting the antitrust review by the U.S. Department of Justice.
