According to GMK Center, Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel has announced a groundbreaking achievement, becoming the first company globally to reduce carbon emissions by 43% in a test furnace at its East Nippon Works Kimitsu Area plant. This reduction was verified during tests conducted from November to December 2024, utilizing the company's Super COURSE50 technology, which employs heated hydrogen instead of coal. Nippon Steel previously recorded a 22% reduction in 2022 and 33% in 2023. The company aims to further develop technologies that will cut emissions from steel production by over 50% as part of its Carbon Neutral Vision 2050 initiative.
