Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA), the largest steel producer in the UAE, has signed a memorandum of understanding with China's Delong Steel Group to construct and operate a facility producing low-carbon emission raw materials for steelmaking. The agreement was announced by ESA's CEO Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi during the UAE President's state visit to China.
The new project aligns with ESA's commitment to decarbonizing the steel industry through innovative solutions. It will produce low-carbon feedstock to support green steelmaking operations. Further details about the facility were not disclosed.
ESA, formed from the merger of Emirates Steel and Arkan Building Materials in 2021, is majority-owned by Abu Dhabi's ADQ holding company. With an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tons, ESA offers a comprehensive range of steel and construction products for domestic and international markets.
Last year, ESA announced plans with Masdar to develop the first green hydrogen project in the Middle East and North Africa region, further advancing its decarbonization strategy and the UAE's environmental agenda.
