Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has launched an anti-dumping investigation into galvanized wire imports from Egypt and the UAE. The action follows complaints by Moroccan companies, including Somatref, Sicotrem, Galvaftl, and Sodefer, alleging that these imports are being sold at unfairly low prices.
The galvanized wire in question, listed under HS code 7217.2099.00, is commonly used in agriculture and industry for products such as wire mesh, gabions, barbed wire, fencing, and automotive components. According to the Ministry, imports of this product from Egypt and the UAE rose sharply, increasing from 112 tons in 2020 to 14,669 tons by September 2024.
The investigation will review imports between January 1 and December 31, 2024, for evidence of dumping, while an injury assessment will evaluate the impact on Morocco’s steel industry from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2024.
