Australian iron ore producer Mineral Resources (MinRes) has reopened its private Onslow haul road on 21 March after addressing safety concerns raised by Western Australia's safety regulator, Worksafe WA. The road, which connects the Onslow iron ore project to the Port of Ashburton, was closed on 19 March following incidents, including the tipping of ore-filled trailers.
The Onslow haul road has faced ongoing challenges, including damage from Cyclone Sean in January and prior accidents. MinRes announced plans in January to redesign the highway and aims to complete upgrades by September. Additionally, the company plans to increase production at Onslow to 35 million tonnes per year during the July-September quarter, maintaining its full-year export guidance at 8.8-9.3 million wet metric tonnes. Recent iron ore price volatility was noted, with prices fluctuating between $88 and $94.70 per tonne before settling at $85.70 on 21 March.
